Sherlock: The Last Consulting Airbender. 

YES. I NEED THIS MORE THAN VAMPIRES.

“I don’t like the Underground,” Sherlock states, folding his arms across his chest. 

“Look, I know you hate the ventilation systems-“

Sherlock scoffs out a laugh. He drums his fingers on his arm, flicking the sound against John’s ear with a warm puff. 

“-but it’s cheaper,” John continues, not taking the bait. “The cabs are getting expensive, Sherlock.”

“Paying clients, John. It’s fine.”

“I quite like the Underground.”

Sherlock’s reflection in the cab window rolls its eyes. “You would.”

An earthbender and an airbender get along like a firebender and straw, so they say: destruction and a quick burn out. It’s an old stereotype, but John’s never paid it mind. Except for the last time he dated an airbender. The one time, he means. 

BEST. Ohgod i want to draw benderlock but i cannot possibly put him in yellow so he would look like a firebender with tattoos. WAIT NO THAT SOUNDS AWESOME. and he grows his hair back out like a girl omg

“Master Holmes… they were the footprints of a giant bison!”

Not in yellow, he still needs his coat. Think the tattoos could be optional? Or he could hide them with his gloves, if they were mandatory in some fashion.

“Can’t you smell it? I’ll waft it for you, here, smell.”

“Ugh, Sherlock!”

John would be trained as a healer and typically be among waterbenders, which means he has experience in bending less stable substances, like mud and even sand. While in Afghanistan, being shot in the shoulder leads to a blocked chakra that manifests as a limp and an inability to bend. John overcomes the block first by chasing the cab, and then by glassbending the cabbie to death with the window. After, Sherlock is all “Probably a waterbender” to Lestrade while watching John.

“Sherlock, there’s something under here. I mean, something not under here.”

“What, a secret tunnel?”

Moriarty would come off as a firebender with all the bombs, but he’s actually a waterbender. He bloodbends his hostages into complying. Sherlock thinks he’s a firebender, though, and makes one hell of a mistake in setting the confrontation at the pool.

“There is no war in London, Dr. Watson. Not unless you walk with Sherlock Holmes.”

WHAT ARE ALL THESE FEELINGS I FEEL.
Sherlock totally does have the tattoos: London weather gives him a convenient excuse to hide them, which kind of shocks John the first time he rolls up his sleeves. Not sure about Mycroft, as I think we never got canon confirmation regarding non-bending Air, but perhaps they’re half Air on their mother’s side?

There are non-benders for Water and Earth, and probably some for Fire, so I can see the same for Air. Dunno, we’ll see how Legend of Korra goes. And a city environment, too, even better for crossover. They can be half Air on their mother’s side. 

He could metalbend a humvee. Or. Or. Think of a city. Think of all the glass, all the stonework, all the concrete and pavement. Think of the ability to walk and feel the ground beneath your feet, below your feet, and feel whether the Tube is running on time. Or touch the sewers. 

Or combined. Sherlock kicks up a cloud of dirt, sends it after someone, and John clamps the particles shut around legs and wrists. 

They’d have training sessions together. Entirely opposite techniques, John grounded, Sherlock evading. Could wind up as grappling and escapes very easily. 

Also, Angelo is the new Iroh. 

Also, there is bending as art. Soo Lin does it as a Water bender with the tea ceremony. 

…I didn’t realize how much I needed this until now. And bendingsignpost is the most perfect guy imaginable for the job. Oh lord. I’m just gonna be hanging off his every word until the end of time, I can already feel it.
